What determines the price of a cycle:
In a laundrette, the price of a wash depends above all on the size of the machine (the larger the drum, the more the cycle costs) and on the temperature chosen (a 60 °C wash uses more energy than a cold one). Drying, for its part, is generally paid by time. So it is the amount of laundry and the programme that set your budget, not a single flat price.
Running one full large machine is almost always cheaper than several small ones: at La Laverie de la Somme, the whole idea is to wash a lot for very little, which has made it one of the most affordable addresses in the neighbourhood.
Duration, programme by programme:
A wash cycle in a laundrette is deliberately quicker than at home: allow around 30 minutes for a standard programme, a little more at high temperature or on an « intensive » programme, and less on a quick cycle. Drying adds 20 to 40 minutes depending on the load and the fabric.
All in all, a complete visit (wash + dry) often fits within the hour. Many customers start their machine, run an errand or have a coffee nearby, and come back just in time for the drying.
Our tips for paying less:
A few simple habits lighten the bill: fill the machine properly (without packing it) to make each cycle count; wash at low temperature whenever the laundry is not very soiled; choose a fast spin to shorten the drying time you pay for; and take the laundry out barely damp to finish in the open air.
Grouping your washing into one large load rather than several small machines is by far the best saving. That is the whole point of a laundrette: washing a lot, quickly and cheaply.
